1.30.10

I just finished watching "It happened one night". Since I am not capable of watching any movie that is too intense and violent I much prefer light love stories. I prefer older romantic comedies to current ones, this being because I have NO interest in Kate Hudson, or Sarah Jessica Parker.

This last week my GREATEST accomplishment was having the guts to clip the birds wings. After watching a helpful how-to movie on Youtube we (Liz & me) were ready to regain some control. Meaning, that for the last few months our birds have been sort of controlling our lives. They would fly into our food, land in our rooms and poo, land in our beds, freak out and fly in circles, etc... Some people have been judgmental about this thinking that its wrong to clip birds wings. Just like with children sometimes you have to limit them for there own good. The birds would constantly hit windows, walls and mirrors. They also forgot that Liz and I are their flock leaders and not them. SO, Im proud of this and I think you should probably be proud of us, and enjoy these photos.

Oh, hey. Yea, I'm just at work you know drinking tea and eating an eclair. Yep, I know what time it is but sometimes you gotta make sacrifices right? I wore this particular outfit yesterday during the first half of the day. I had just received the tights from Modcloth and I hadn't realized that I have the perfect sweater to go with it, the greens are almost the exact same. It sort of a low key outfit there is nothing too intense going on but that's when you employ striped tights in the first place.

Dear Amber,

You gave me $10 to mend your pants. You didn't think it was enough money but I thought it was sufficient. I believe in either extremely cheap things like $1 Costco pizza or expensive things like $150 dresses. I guess that isn't that expensive but Im just trying to say Im not a middle ground person. So, I thought $10 was good because otherwise I would've charged you $50 just to follow my rule. This post is how I spent your money.

First of all I turned the whole $10 into Quarters. Whooo!!!

Then I got all my laundry together.

And I did laundry. You sort of saved me because it had been a really long time. Here is the whole process since you probably wanted to see it. Mmmmhmm.

Laundry, - $4

I walk past two little neighborhood grocery stores on the way to work. I like to stop at either one to buy breakfast and a snack. Usually I get yogurt or ice cream (yea...) but today I was craving a banana and some chocolate.

Breakfast, - $1.50

Later in the day, walking to another work from the bus stop I decided to check in on a little bakery Greg told me about. Carol's bakery is a little hidden gem in Sugarhouse, seriously hidden in a shady garage alley. Two little old men run the whole place and I crushed pretty hard. The inside is decorated with newspaper clippings and vintage knickknacks. I was too embarrassed to take pictures inside, you know how that is. I bought 3 eclairs.

Stupid face. . . This was the best one.

Eclairs, - $2

When I was in San Francisco Greg bought me this little sushi necklace. The chain it came on would clasp together using a small magnet. Obviously that didn't work, magnets for necklace clasps need some further development before I approve. I took the necklace to String Beads in Sugarhouse (You know since I was around). The salesperson put a bigger ring on it and strung a suede cord through it. As far as jewelry goes Im a pretty simple girl, so this knot and suede cord is perfect for me.

Necklace Cord, - $1.12

Well, what can you buy with $1ish? Remind you of a commercial for some gross fast food place.? THIS IS WAY BETTER because I know what is the perfect end to this post and the $10, and still under a dollarish.

Taco, - $1

Im still sick. Probably the worst part is that due to the sickness I've broken out all over my face. So not only do I feel sort of terrible, I also look sort of terrible, which is terrible. Its the whole insult to injury bit. I do feel alittle better today but not enough to say I am better. Yesterday I tried to "relax". Im sort of confused about the boundaries of this word, but I think I successfully relaxed. So here is what I did to relax

1) Purchased and consumed gyro and fries
2) Read all of Vices Do's and Dont's
3) Read the whole internet (Stole that from Thomas)
4) Napped
5) Watch Bye Bye Birdie, while working on my dress
6) Watch Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, while working on the dress and eating dinner
7) Tried sleep, then buying fabric samples online

Relaxing.

I'm an idiot. I was trying to make myself feel better so I had pho and I just drank a mason jar of tea. Now Im never going to get to bed, Im going to have to pee all night! SO, why not do an extra post.

I am working on a dress. I've been describing it as state fair + bondage. Everyone I show it to is really skeptical about the whole thing. I can see it in their eyes and hesitation to comment. EVERYONE! I guess its alittle much but I don't want to make things that I could buy anywhere I want to make one of a kind clothing. I wanted to use many trends and put them together to offset the usual look that goes with it. Also I wanted the dress to be about my body and accentuating the positive. The trends Im playing with are Christopher Kane's gingham S/S line. The caged look madness particularly mimicking Savant. I put the always sweet and summery gingham under a white cage. Yes, its alittle sensual but the gingham and patterned white really balance it out. Also I think the dress is a little Gothic Lolita. Im excited to finish it and wear it. What do your think?

heehe, booty shot.

Life is a funny thing, you never know where it (or your friends) will lead you. One day your a successful women working three jobs wearing killer outfits and on doing a-ok. The next thing you know you have a terrible cold and some how your trapped in the muddy parking lot of a country line dancing club because some stupid diesel truck decided to ruin everyone's life by getting stuck in said mud.

I'm so dramatic! I really did go to a weird country line dancing club, and it was weird. I did see alot of interesting "things".

Im doing the same thing in this photo as I am in the next one. Ha!

Both my paternal and maternal grandmothers are very antsy, dry, eccentric women. I knew from a very early age that there was no hope for me being a fun older person. Or even middle age, I already see the signs of it.

My maternal grandmother is the nicer of the two. Yet she doesn't think twice about putting kittens in a plastic bag, but she is not usually mean to your face. ish. She is a big advocate of home remedies. Whenever she visits she is excited to tell us a new remedy. For dramatic affect here is a list of some of these miracles drugs? artichoke, milk of magnesia, snake meat pills, oj with your own pee, I know theres more but thats all I can think of right now. There is a women who works at the Universities cafeteria that I know. Whenever I grab lunch I make sure to go thru her cash register. Yesterday I told her I was feeling alittle ill and she went on to tell me a home remedy. As a JOKE I told her how my grandma thinks you can cure Cancer by drinking your own urine with OJ. I waited for the chuckle, but it didn't come. She believes it! She told me her friend in Columbia drank his own pee for 3months and it cured him. THREE MONTHS!!! I mean how do you convince people to even start the regime, let alone do it for THREE MONTHS! What is it with older latin ladies and believing in these crazy home remedies. I myself am a fan of science. ish.

Oh, yea... I wore this last night.

Lately I've been sporting the greasy dirty hair look, it goes kind of perfect with the nomakeup tired eyes thing Im doing lately. I try not to wear makeup when I look tired because makeup doesn't cover everything, it sometimes makes my face worse.

This week in SLC has been taken over by tourists. With Sundance going on ever restaurant seems to get pack anytime a movie gets out. Avoid Trolly Square! Or Park City in general. My goal was to go to this really delicious restaurant in PC before Sundance Madness started. I missed my opportunity and now it the waiting game. BUTCHERS!!!! I MISS YOU!!! Also SLC is having the Outdoor Retailer Show. So basically this means aswell as restaurants and streets being busier than usually, Im sure the slopes are crowded. Lucky for me, I dont ski. The Pros to this situation is it brings an influx of cute boys. Outdoorsy and Indie movie guys, yup I guess that's ok.

Although I identify as a fashionista of sorts, I don't think that fashion and style is all encompassing of my personality. I believe in a balance of all things. I think about clothes and runway shows all the time but I also think about food alot. I guess Im trying to say that my style isn't always so focused and on trend sometimes its nostalgia or stupid naive thoughts that push me to a conclusion.

As a young man my father wanted to one day be herpetologist. Every since I was young we shared a home with my fathers second family, of snakes. His collection of snakes had their own room before I did or any of my siblings did, granted they shared it between all 200 snakes. For fun my father would take us snake hunting really late at night in the West Desert. We never found anything but roadkill. What I remember most vividly of these trips was falling asleep and missing the snack pit stop. Snakes weren't the only thing he loved, he is interested in lizards and birds aswell. During a family camp out my dad found and caught a horny toad. These lizards are very small and rough. When threatened they bleed from there eyes, like how gecko's can shed a tail.

On Monday my aunt told me she had a necklace that she thought might be my style. I was already thinking of ways to get out of this. I don't wear or own very much jewelry. I am very picky about what I buy and wear, I stick to my 4 necklaces. When she pulled out a very simple string necklace with a horny toad pendent I almost died.

I'm sure everyone has seen this dress a million times now. Almost ever blog girl has already post their pictures with the Rodarte for Target clothing. Since I knew everyone had already gone crazy for this line I decided to hold back for awhile. On Sat morning after my successful dance party I decided get up and dress like my interpretation of a dancer. Im wearing the nude color leggings and the gray scrunch socks that really makes me feel like a dancer. Also the palette of grey, blue and tan feels very Center Stage to me. Don’t judge me and my bad movie taste!

Here I've added the leather jacket, for a sweet dancer gone bad look! I was nervous about posting this look because I try not to follow the blog banter. I think I gave the dress a new life, what do you think?

1.14.10

Thoughts,

1) For months at a time I have songs stuck in my head. I change the words according to what I'm doing at the moment, it becomes my anthem. I can never tell what song is going to stick in my mind. Most of the time its a mildly embarrassing song, but its something I cannot control. I went through a phase were " ShakeShakeShake, ShakeShakeShake, Shake your booty! Shake your booty!" Was always playing, I liked switching out the words shake. Almost any word fits. Luckily for the people in my life I realized I am getting over my recent anthem which was the Peanut Butter Jelly song. Im going to miss you! Im writing this because I just now realized what the new song constantly jogging threw my mind.

"Awww! Tell me what you want! What you really really Want!"
"I'll Tell you what I want, what I really really Want! "

Trying to write emails to educators while this is going on is difficult but endlessly amusing. I want to respond to everything with this song. When a friend asks me what I want to do next. When Greg asks what I want for dinner. When my boss says anything.

2) I have a hard time relaxing or not doing anything. If I have any freetime I am always doing something. I think of this as a really good thing. I make alot of projects, and I look at them as small time counters. Like what did I do for the 3 hrs in November 09, oh yes made this dress. To me time is meant to be valued. I find it very slothful when people don't realize that everyday is important. Everyday is a new opportunity to create and learn. People don't have to wait for someone else to tell them what to do. Work shouldn't be our only productive time, what are we doing to better ourselves and not just who we work for?

Things Im doing.

1) Undertaking a large beading project
2) Creating comic strips of my memories
3) Creating my own line of Cycling Wear for women
4) I want to learn more about Contemporary art and artists, Clothing Construction, Fabrics, African masks and cultural objects, etc...
5) I want to read more.
