12.1.09

I feel that alot of people approach winter with confusion. They usually go straight for the puffy coat because its warm. That's all fine and well but winter styling is by far one of the most exciting.

In the summer I gravitate toward the least amount of clothing and the best prints. I try to wear a shoe that doesn't require socks and I usually don't wear more than 3 items of clothing. Its all about finding the breathable print dress that's long enough to ride my bike in. By the end of summer and during fall I begin to crave jackets and then more decadent fabrics. I want Velvets, Corduroy, Brocade, Flannel and Canvas. When the temperature finally drops its finally time to pull my stock out.

Dress - Ruffled Bodycon Dress with Mesh Top
Tights - We love color

This Winter I plan to indulge myself in wearing Velvets whenever I please. I want to wear rich colors that pop in the winter snow. I will do this by pairing prints with rich colored coats and accessories. I want to wear Greens, Purples, and Yellows. I will try to be creative no matter what the weather is. I will take warmth in account every time I dress but that wont stop me from wearing unexpected accessories. I want to wear muted colors Gray, Dark Blue and Black. Whether its a blizzard or a sunny winter day I want to make the best of the weather. My solution to winter isn't one large parka that covers everything. I want to use color, fabric and accessories to brighten up cold.

Apparently there are millions of people running around shopping all across America. In my own city Im sure the malls are packed and parking lots are a mess. Im right here, writing this from my bed. I tried to go to work but then after an hour of loneliness I realized it was too quiet and creepy for me to be productive. So now Im being unproductive in my pajamas. I took a shower and am wearing my most comfortable security sweater. It used to belong to me father but I used to tell people it once belonged to my great grandfather who actually wore it here from Mexico. Very romanticized. A couple years ago when my face got messed up in a bike accident I wore this exclusively. It just makes me feel safe and warm. I keep it in my bed, just incase I get cold or lonely. My bed in general is my safe place. I store clothes that I like so much I want to sleep next to, in my bed. I also have my stuffed animals with me. I know Im too old for that and its just gross but I love having them there. Greg doesn't mind other than they take alot of room. I'm babysitting the large Pikachu pillow until my brother comes back from his LDS mission. Only one more year! Since Im clean and wearing my super powers sweater I feel really good looking, so here are some pictures of me being good looking.

I have a love/hate relationship with Holidays. I like spending time with my family, but not too much. I like to not work but not really because I need money. Im annoyed that today feels like Sat. So I will have two Sat, its SO confusing

Hmmm... I've been spending a whole lot of time watching oldish rap music videos on Youtube. I once again have fallen in love with Ludacris. His music videos are all so clever and he is more interested in being creative than seeming like a hard thug. I dont have alot of time to post this because Ive got some old Jay Z videos waiting for me.

This is an introduction to a couple new members to my clothes family. Meet the muted turquoise gloves and the studded brown belt.

Thoughts

1) Why do all the junior high kids from The Salt Lake Arts Academy smell so strongly of weed? Honestly my downstairs neighbors would be shamed by these kids stench. Its like "Hey! College stoner's we're in 8th grade and we hit it harder than you do!" Yea, my throat is all itchy from it. They were a really great group though. I LOVE giving tours to kids for several reasons. One reason is for my own social experiments. I like to make them read out loud and compare them to kids from other parts of the state. Copperhills elementary, those 6th graders can read! REAL WELL!

2) I am a full blooded Latina who was raised in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, in the reddest state in America. Growing up there weren't many ethic peers. My siblings and I grew up very Americanized. Yes we do have some Mexican traditions but we are very American. Even with this I can never hide my ethnicity's physically and taste-wise (not that I would want to). Last week I had to create an example of an art making activity. The activity is making a salt painting. The salt causes the painting to look shiny and textured. I wasn't sure what to make but the inner Latina spoke loud and true. I made a Low Rider that was propped on one wheel. OF COURSE! I mean shiny = Low Rider.

3) I like pop music. I also occasionally like mainstream music. Since I like to dance so much its sometimes is the best thing to bust a move to. Last night Greg (significant other) revealed that he had no idea who Lil Jon is, or what crunk is. WHHHAAAATT? (say it like your Lil Jon himself) Crunk was a really popular mainstream south rap style. REMEMBER! It was huge!!! I was honestly dumbfounded. Luckily we've been together for 2yr 6mo, otherwise its sort of a dealbreaker. This means that all the times I did my Lil Jon impression he didn't get it. How does he know who Usher and E40 are but not Lil JON!!!!!!!!!!!! Its honestly really unbelievable to me. WHERE WERE YOU? YOU MISSED ALL THE GOOD JOKES OF THE EARLY 2000's!

This morning I woke up and I had no clue what I was going to wear. Usually I have some idea of what I want to use in my outfit but not the whole thing. So I started from scratch, I picked up a shirt and thought "why not?" When I bought this Design History floral cut out top I was enamored by its shape shifter qualities. The cutouts made it instantly classy and expensive looking. The fabric was also instantly comfortable. Since then ... I hardly wear it. SO HERE YOU ARE SHIRT GETTING THE RESPECT YOU DESERVE!

Watch my process. I first choose the base outfit, then add weather conscious accessories and lastly my outer wear. Duh.

Get it! I reference the leggings back to the belt color so it doesn't seem just thrown in. HIGHFIVE! to myself...

Zipper Belt - H&M
Skirt - Thrifted DI (some diy going on up in here)

Black Leggings

Yesterday for the first time while wearing this outfit someone stop me and say "Uhhh... are you seriously wearing a bunny sweater with a carrot hair clip?" Thats right I AM!!! I found this sweater last year at a local thrift shop. I remember seeing it and understanding the true meaning of "Love at first sight", "One in a million" and all those other cliche love phrases. My true love is a black sweater adorn with bunnies and carrots. I also just happened to own tights that PERFECTLY match the colors in this sweater. Im also wearing a form fitting ruffled dress with a mesh top under the sweater. The dress is the sexy adult part of the outfit to offset the silly. Ahh, the sweet life of wearing anything you want to work and being PRAISED for it. (p.s. excuse the stupid faces)

Oooh, Im such a lady hiding behind my hand! I cant help but doing silly poses, it just what happens when anyone gets in front of a camera.

Today I wore jeans, and its such a struggle to do anything in them. Sitting through a 2hour meetings is 10x harder in pants! They are just so itchy and restricting, I much rather wear a loose dress with some sandals. My boss thinks maybe I should change detergents, but I just don't see how my super strong concentrated mexican soap can be at fault... errr... Just because it makes me choke when I shake out my dry laundry doesn't mean uhh... yea. IT JUST MAKES EVERYTHING SO CLEAN!

Bunny Sweater - Savers
Form Fitting, Ruffled dress with Mesh Top - Ross (really!)
Tights - Hue Brand
Calf High Black Boots - Ross (really!)

That particular trip to ross was amazing, I found the pictured dress, the boots and a perfect for my shape Michael Kors dress that you will witness laterish.

LOVE,

During my trip to San Francisco, I was able to buy just a couple new things. Today I wore one of my new purchases. Yes, I know its WAY cute. Its a empire waist brown polyester dress. It has this sort of odd but attractive flaps on the chest and shoulders. Its a heavy fabric so its seems like it would be warm. I didn't want to complicated the outfit with too much so the outfit is made up of just a few items. Enjoy ( I know I will).

Blue Coat - Tullette
Brown Dress - Esley, bought at Therapy
Blue Hue Tights
Brocade flats - Target

AHHH! Its already the 10th of November. Time moves by SO incredible fast. I think thats a good sign, it means your life is exciting enough that it moves at lighting speed.

This weekend I was on Holiday in San Francisco. Then entire trip was a world wind of walking, amazing food and art. Usually when I go out of town I like to buy clothing that is unique to the city, or at least not available where I live. I wasn't able to do that much shopping, but I'm very happy with what I bought and mostly what I experienced. I don't have very many pictures to show for it but here is a recap.

Nov 6th - Traumatized by seeing a dead baby bird, Brunch at Craig's Diner, Shopped around Mission, Ate dinner at Le Mediterene, Partied at Elixir, Looked for the defunct HushHush, had dessert at Le Blush and finished off at a strange event at the Elbow Room.

Nov 7th - Had a homemade cookie breakfast, Spent all day walking the ENTIRE city on an impromptu tour by a San Francisco native, Ate pho, walked into a short pole, Bought $45 in chocolate, Ate an amazingly perfect portion dinner at Tangerine, went to Twin Peaks bar to use the bathroom and stayed for a bit, Walked up a big hill, found The Make Out Room and danced the night away.

Nov 8th - Had a pizza breakfast at Sparky s, Went to SFMOMA and saw the Richard Avedon Show (a must), Looked for books, shopped, Dinner at Harvey's (the gay apple bees) and then had a tea party at our hosts apt.

Nov 9th - Airport

LOVELY

My favorite flavor of ice cream is Pistachio. I love the color, taste and feel of being a pricey nut. Halloween has been over for a few days now, but I just HAVE to show you my costume. Im an ice cream cone. I made the all aspects of this outfit, I hand painted the dress to look like it was a waffle cone. You like?

Me computering, showing off the clutter.
