Lately I've been feeling really awkward about my weight. It just always seems to get in the way. Like when I think I'm looking really cute I take photos and I see what I look like I dont like my outfits anymore. That's the reason I've only been taking outfit photos of me in things I made. When I create something I make it fit me perfectly, and flattering to my shape. The part of my body that's been most annoying, is my chest. ITS SO HUGE! and annoying! I will address this more in a later post.

Hello.

I guess its sort of been awhile since I gave you an outfit. Its been even longer since I gave you an outfit I didn't make.

WELL, h Is my newest creation. When displaying things I've made I feel the need to really pare it down and wear it with no accessories. I am really happy with the way this dress came out. Its shape makes my waist look very slender. My brother said that the contrast of the fabrics really "pop" almost too much. He thought is was sort of out there. I thought for once I had created a "average" dress.

Dress - Self Made
Green Suede Moccasins - Ross

In general I'm pleased with the way this dress came out. I've hemmed and hidden every edge of the dress and it fits me beautifully.

Here is my next project. Somehow I will make this shirt adorable and wearable with only the most minimal cutting. I have some thoughts, I may show some sketches later this week, maybe.

Thoughts.

1) Did you know that I go to the gym like 3x a week? Greg and I go to The Front, a rock climbing gym. I usually spend the time running on the treadmill, stretching and doing sit-ups. I still climb occasionally but I decided that if I was going to spend SO much time at the gym, I better be loosing calories as opposed to gaining muscle weight. Although I'm a little roundy, I have a muscular build. My favorite parts of my body are my face and below the thighs. Honestly my legs are my masterpiece.

2) Last night Greg and I got into an argument/fight. After we worked things out I asked Greg to read me a story ( Yes, I really did). He emerged with the Little Mermaid. I couldn't understand why after fighting he would choose such a sad, tortured loved story. The author Hans Christian Andersen was himself a very romantically frustrated person, and it showed within his work. Since purchasing the book over 5 years ago, I have only read it a handful of times. I usually look to kids books for a light pick me up. Greg go a few pages into it when I closed the book. Greg didn't understand why. Can you believe that Greg didn't know the real story! H only knew the Disney version! As I went to collect a new book (Petronella, feminist princess story from the 70's) I watched him read The Little Mermaid to himself. His brow was furrowed and deep in thought. PEOPLE! KNOW THIS! A Movie about the Dali Lama is not going to be a quick easy watch! The true versions of fairy tales are not usually sweet at all!

Shessh, people.

3) This pay period I did a really good job of arranging my monies. I did so well that when I had a shopping freak out I wasn't broke. Here is a tiny image of one of my other purchases. I like that you cant see it too well, because you will just have to wait to see it on me!!!!!!!!!!

A couple years ago a fashion student from BYU told me about an amazing fabric store hidden in the wasteland of Lehi. The way she described it I knew that I had to go, no matter where it was located. In general I really like to explore most towns/cities. I believe that any place is worthwhile if you take the time to find it out. Last weekend Greg and I went to a novelty steakhouse, and this quilt shoppe.

She was totally right, it was amazing. Not only is BroadBents a fabric store but its also a general store, toy store, doll shoppe, baby store and book store. It was a stay at home moms dream, or what I think would be their dream. Greg and I fell in love with the well organized fabrics and came home with more than we expected.

Here's the loot and what has come of it.

When I saw the red fabric I knew it had to be a dress. I choose the print of the children camping to pair with it. Here is the result of the first night of construction.

Here is the project after the second night.

All I need now is to Hem it and add a zipper. Perfect.

On Feb 12, 2010 Alexander McQueen committed suicide. Even now its difficult for me to swallow the fact that he is gone. I have no connection to him personally but through his work he had an effected on me, that made me feel that we were friends. I loved the way his mind translated to clothing, and I so wanted to be part of that. My wish was to some day own one of his dresses . I came very close on two occasions but was just a couple minutes too late.

When he died I knew it was time to get something, even if it was small. I looked for a day or so on all the online stockist. Everything was still extremely expensive, in the end I decided on the scarf. I'm embarrassed to reveal how much it was for a silly scarf, but for me it about more than a scarf. Its accomplishing a goal and honoring a person I admire. Its as though buying one silly scarf finally makes me a part of "it".

Thank you, goes out to Greg for fronting half the bill. Its amazing when others understand your thoughts even when its hard to explain.

During the age when young girls started to wear jewelry, I realized I was extremely allergic to cheap metals. I wore a teddy bear ring for 4 days, my entire finger began to puff up and puss. Earring were also equally traumatic.

About 5 years ago I opted for gauging my ears. Not only do I like the way it looks but I love all the different options. I can choose between having earrings of precious rock, horn, nut, wood and plastics. I've broken several earrings, Im really too rough on everything. Although they are broken I could never throw anything away. Here is my collection

Ugly stretchers from Hot Topic. Sometimes is necessary to get cheap stretchers, I used these to fit into my current earrings.

My first pair of extremely stylized earrings. They use to be SO sharp they would scratch peoples faces when they hugged me. They are made of horn , a birthday gift bought from Koi.

Bought at the Farmers Market, they're made of nut. No, I cant eat them, yes your the first to ever ask me.

These are truly my dream earrings. Unfortunately they are far too delicate for me. Made of jade from Koi. These were also a birthday gift from Thomas.

I bought these in Seattle during my first trip there. They are suppose to be turquoise, I think they're just plastic though. They had a very hard life.

Given to me by my sister, Lapis?

Bought in Portland several years ago. Hand made ceramic.

The Turquoise earrings were my very first real pair of gauges. Both of these were given to me by my sister. My older sister had gauged ears for awhile, when she gave it up I received her collection.

These two pairs I very recently bought on Etsy. If you are interested in gauge earrings I would definitely suggest this seller. http://www.etsy.com/shop/RogueBodyJewelry

I specially requested a certain size and they made them. Also they're pricing is SO good. $10 for each one of the above earrings.

Here are my current earrings. These are the ones that I specially requested from the above mentioned Etsy seller. I've always wanted earring with the Aztec calendar on them. Unfortunately my gauge size is too small for most gauges with this design. These gauges only have the center image but fit perfectly.

Its done. I have finally completed the "Gothic Lolita Goes To the State Fair", "Bondage Raggedy Anne", dress. Overall I am really happy with the way it turned out. Its also funny that the new camera photos look the same as the old cameras photos.

The sun ducked behind some clouds as soon as I started taking photos.

As you've probably noticed I don't obsess over accessories. I obsess mostly over dresses, I like cute prints and special details. I like the dress to speak for it self and I usually dont add very much to the outfit. When I finished this dress I knew it would be hard to pair with anything. For these photos I decided to just throw on some shoes and focus on the dress. Honestly what do you think?

If during this post I wooed you into thinking that Im a sweet girl in purple gingham, great. No matter how I tried to crop it I could get my armpit out without cropping some dress details. Oh well, I guess Im just not that sweet.

LOVE MARCELA!

Greg recently let me use one of his cameras. Its basically the new version of my old camera. I like it so far, it does have the most important feature. A viewing screen that pops out and swivels so you can see yourself when your using a self timer.

I thought that while I didn't have a camera I could just draw my outfits. I was slow on actually doing so, but well there it is.

Dress - Insight
Vest - Thrifted
Shoes - Report

P.s. My brother is ok, apparently he just sat on the couch while the earthquake was going. He said he thought it was the safest spot. His roommates/companions were all running around and yelling. One guy tried to save all the dishes from falling. Overall my brother accessed that they only lost one plate.
