11.10.09

AHHH! Its already the 10th of November. Time moves by SO incredible fast. I think thats a good sign, it means your life is exciting enough that it moves at lighting speed.

This weekend I was on Holiday in San Francisco. Then entire trip was a world wind of walking, amazing food and art. Usually when I go out of town I like to buy clothing that is unique to the city, or at least not available where I live. I wasn't able to do that much shopping, but I'm very happy with what I bought and mostly what I experienced. I don't have very many pictures to show for it but here is a recap.

Nov 6th - Traumatized by seeing a dead baby bird, Brunch at Craig's Diner, Shopped around Mission, Ate dinner at Le Mediterene, Partied at Elixir, Looked for the defunct HushHush, had dessert at Le Blush and finished off at a strange event at the Elbow Room.

Nov 7th - Had a homemade cookie breakfast, Spent all day walking the ENTIRE city on an impromptu tour by a San Francisco native, Ate pho, walked into a short pole, Bought $45 in chocolate, Ate an amazingly perfect portion dinner at Tangerine, went to Twin Peaks bar to use the bathroom and stayed for a bit, Walked up a big hill, found The Make Out Room and danced the night away.

Nov 8th - Had a pizza breakfast at Sparky s, Went to SFMOMA and saw the Richard Avedon Show (a must), Looked for books, shopped, Dinner at Harvey's (the gay apple bees) and then had a tea party at our hosts apt.

Nov 9th - Airport

LOVELY

My favorite flavor of ice cream is Pistachio. I love the color, taste and feel of being a pricey nut. Halloween has been over for a few days now, but I just HAVE to show you my costume. Im an ice cream cone. I made the all aspects of this outfit, I hand painted the dress to look like it was a waffle cone. You like?

Me computering, showing off the clutter.

11.4.09

Last night while washing all my sweaters by hand I realized. Hey, this is the difference between rich people and poor people. I save up for expensive things and when it come time to wash these things I'm hand washing them in the sink myself. Hand washing my clothes gives me a lot of insight into its quality. I can see how durable it is and how much it bleeds the first time it is washed. Also it causes my hands to throb and itch, because I use heavy duty mexican soap. Gets the stains right out, Goodbye embarrassing food stain. I also had an epiphany and envisioned this outfit.

This outfit is a beautiful smooshing of business, fun and comfortable. Since I work at a contemporary, modern art center I am given alot free reign on my outfits. They are never going to be like, "please dress more business like". They actually like when I think of crazy new outfits.

The battle here is finding the right shoe. I could play down the business jacket with these fun golden quilted texture flats. This also helps to add a new color to the palette.

Or, I could intimated my co-workers further with some crazyhot wedge heels. The problem with these SuperOWW! They cut into my skin real bad.

Blazer - Savers
Stripped Dress & Belt - 80's Purple, Purple Label
Tutu petticoat - Self made
Gold Shoes - Nordstrom Rack
Flowered Wedges - Ross, Report

This next outfit was from yesterday. So alot of people think that because I'm into fashion and clothes that makes me a girlygirl. For me thats so odd, I have always thought of myself as a tomboy. Even though I hate wearing pants and prefer dresses, still a tomboy. My reasoning is that I am really a minimalist about accessories, jewelry, make-up and maybe hygiene... I think those things push someone into the girlygirl category, right now I am just girl. I don't care for tweezing my eyebrows and when I see my sisters they are always shocked and make comments about wolfwoman? I wear Blistex chapstick, really. I hate shaving anything, its just cruel to expect that of me. Why is fashion instantly lumped with being OVERLY feminine instead of balanced feminine. If anything its my artistic palette that makes me interested in fabrics and avant-garde pieces as everyday wear.

Tshirt - Gap
Vest - Savers
Skirt - JCDC (AHHHH!!!!!)
Boots - Steven

My last recent thought (I promise). I saw a homeless man on the way too work with his arms out stretched chanting to a wall. He always hangs out on the same block, any and all day. I wasn't scared by him at all. If anything I understand him more than I understand most people. I get what hes doing and its a little weird but not more weird then the tourists taking pictures of a sign thats a picture of a picture. Im telling you, watered down kool-aide.

I've had a couple thoughts in my head.

1) Here in SLC being environmentally friendly and outdoorsy, is a big thing. Trend? No there are just a lot of conscience people here. Some of the movements are very practical and I follow, such as caring a water bottle. For my 3 job juggling its really important I stay hydrated. If Im driving hours away, hauling 100 lbs boxes, teaching hordes of children, or sitting at a desk? I need to drink water. At one of my classes one child found special interest in my specially picked out water container. Because I am me, I wont use any bottle it has to be just the right shape. Or the right amount of water. In my fluster of tasks, I left my container and Im sure she saw it as an opportunity to take it. She said she didn't but then it would be still there. It is lost forever. If I further investigate my suspicion this will turn into a horrible sitcom plot. It took me months to find the right shape, and now the cycle continues. Thirsty...

2) Family is important, it really is! Even if you hate them they have this way of always affecting you. Salt Lake City is heavily populated with people who are part of the LDS faith. Most of my family is LDS, I go to church but don't consider myself LDS, its more that Im spiritual, love and respect the community I grew up in. Two of my siblings are on LDS missions one is in Chile and has been out for 1 year (males serve for 2years). My sister just left and is going to Texas. I send them packages every other week and emails once a week. I don't think this is a lot. Its a regular amount, but among their peers they are considered grossly spoiled. They have to get other people to pretend its theirs mail so peers don't feel jealous. When my siblings dont recieve mail everyone else cheers and sing in happiness. Truthfully, I am not the only one sending them mail, but I am probably the #1 contributor. This makes me sad, not because of my siblings. It makes me sad because why aren't these other LDS people who teach lessons about the importance of family making more of an effort. One of my brothers peers told him that after a year he would most likely stop receiving mail, as people began to forget about him. That absolutely breaks my heart. I love my brother, so much. I love all the sewing ideas he has, I love how nerdy he is. I would NEVER forget about him. Just today I bought a giant gummy alligator for his next package. I just don't understand how anyone could stop missing someone that is temporarily gone, who you love so much. I've added a family friend to my mail roster. He doesn't have family who lives here or who are the same religion. Although I have definite qualms with the LDS organization, I still support my siblings. It doesn't matter if we make totally different decisions and think differently. I promise to mail them as much as possible. I promise to never forget them.

Much Love to Momo & Littlebabyhector

I basically hate driving. Maybe if I had a more reliable vehicle I would like it more. This dislike causes me to be a big advocate of good ole' walking, cycling and public transportation. Downtown parking is sometimes a little messy so taking a bus is really the best solution. Yesterday I after work (both of them, end of day) I was waiting for the bus. When it arrived it threw me off guard because it pulled in quickly. As I got on the bus, the driver was greeting each passenger.

"Hey Man! Whats up!"
"How you doin, Girl"

This bus driver was awesome. When another car cut him off he yelled and threw his arms up and was turned around and was like "Did you see that? That guy totally cut me off like as if I wasn't a bus". He then began driving faster than any bus I've ever ridden. My 15m commute became 5. Randomly before we got to the Hospital I live closeish to he yelled " AHHH!!!!! DID YOU SEE THAT!!!! THAT MAN JUST KICKED HIS DOG", in between a fit of giggles he continued. "HE JUST KICKED THAT DOG! HE TRYING TO TEACH IT TO SIT BY KICKING IT! I FEEL BAD FOR THAT DOG! HE JUST KICKED HIS DOG!!!" When we did get to the hospital he greeted a man saying "Hey man! We're GOING to get you THERE!"

I love eccentric people in the right situation. This was the right situation, and I loved every minute of it.

Im dressing as an ice cream cone for Halloween, pictures to follow.
Im going to San Francisco next weekend.

10.27.09

Its snowing. Ive been wearing boots frequently during the mild autumn but now that its snowing its the last thing I want to wear. Instead Im wearing some mesh Maryjane's J-41. I'm not sure why I wanted to wear these shoes. Its like my brain is telling me to only wear completely impractical things.

Here is a photo taken of me during the last few weeks of summer. A friend and I were just enjoying the hot weather on my balcony 4 stories above the city. The dress Im wearing is really too short to be a dress. I'm interested in getting some denim leggings. In this photo although you cant see Im wearing it with shorts.

Nice.

10.22.09 MAS

Second post of the day!!! WHOOO!!! Earlier today I posted my outfit from Tuesday. I liked what I was wearing today so I decided to post todays outfit as well. Its kind of a hodgepodge of ideas. Im wearing one of my most favorite dresses in the world. I call it my toy dress, its fun and imaginative but also SO comfortable. Autumn + Summer + Classic + Urban =

The blue velvet cape is one of my latest projects. Last year I was given a giant bolt of blue velvet. I immediately created a vest and skirt, both items were very mediocre. I decided to do something "Polished". I created the pattern for this cape. Its very simple but classic. It has a plaid silk linear. Everything is hemmed to prevent any fraying, or odd pilling that velvet does.

The summer part of this outfit was below the ankle. I hate wearing boots when its too hot for them. The sandals added the perfect amount of coolness. The toe nails were a big hit with my coworkers. My significant other and I recently got into painting our toenails. I usually wear a dark brown red, and he wears orange. We decided to diversify, nice. He is the main drive behind this quirktivity. He has a gross toe nail on his big toe so it helps him feel more self confident. I TOTALLY understand that.

Blue Velvet Cape - Self made
Toy Dress - Insight
Leggings - Forever 21 ( Ewww...I promise that was my last F21 purchase, COPYCAT JERKS!!!)

I've been listening to a whole lot of mainstream rap from the late 90's early 2000's. Ive tried to share a few songs with my friends, I always think "Oh! They are going to love this and have SO many memories connected to this silly song!". White people are so weird, its like if the song didn't exist after 2006 when rap became cool they don't know it. I'm sure there are a lot of white people who have listen to rap since the beginning and know more about it than I do. People I know are just so ridiculous, its like they know all about Brother Ali and Jurassic 5 but cant connect to classic Ginuwine tracks, just because its too old and mainstream. If it was something old and underground they would be all over that, there is definitely a place in my memories for Juvenile. Whatever. Also its funny when ethnic things become acceptable because then all of a sudden your white friend is hitting you over the head with all the "black" culture stuff they know. Or all the Cuban jazz they own, like all of a sudden they are more ethnic than you because its cool now. Whatever.

Here an awesome outfit I wore Tuesday. I love how two items can have a life and style of their own and then when you put them together they make a whole new life together.

Top - Dear Creature

This last weekend I had some photos taken of me by my best friend. This one is of what I plan to wear this winter. The cape is a project I just finished, not bad. I dont like this photo because I look super chubby, but Im going to be ok with it. I wont make a big deal. Focus on the awesome blue velvet cape with a liner.

Here are some photos to convince you that Im not gross looking. Not only are these shots technically amazing, I love the upside triangles. Oh and I think I look ok.
